Sustainability
Gotland GPe Circuit AB/GotlandRing Sustainability synopsis
- Construction has been executed with minimum environmental impact because of the unique location, a former limestone quarry, part of a repurposing plan, and turning a brown site into a green one
- The stone material has been sourced on-site locally and the construction has been executed with zero-emission machinery
- The track and buildings are made mainly of recycled material (approx. 70%)
- Electricity is sourced from 100 % sustainable energy (wind power, soon even solar through the new 20 MW WEF Solar Park)
- All safety zones and barriers are made of residual and recycled materials
- No pesticides are used at GotlandRing and its surroundings
- To increase the biodiversity, the area is seasonally maintained to enable an optimized biotope (for both flora and fauna), an environment conducive to pollinators, including certain protected butterflies
- Electric maintenance machinery runs on 100 % sustainable energy
- Create an enabling environment for e-mobility, autonomous, self-driving, and connected vehicle technology, mission-specific vehicle demonstrations, and tests
- Smart infrastructure development & sustainable energy harvesting and smart grid innovations
- Together with the World Ecological Forum, GR initiated the SmartRoad Gotland project, a pre-commercial knowledge-based procurement for dynamic charging (inductive wireless charging of vehicles in motion) for the Swedish Transport Administration (the world’s first of its kind)
- Active testing and new model launch venue for zero- and low-emission vehicles
- Safety& Eco Driving events and driver training content is provided in edutainment format (derived from racing) for both b2b and b2c segments
- Host for the world’s first electric motorcycle world championship race
- Creating and consulting intelligent macro & micro-mobility, mission-specific vehicles, and traffic systems through a strategic partnership with the World Ecological Forum
- Active proponent and evangelist organization for traffic electrification, both through smart infrastructure and EVs
- Providing educational support for awareness campaigns and sustainable development
- Self-imposed environmental and safety norms & standards that are stricter than the EU requirements for public roads
- The GR vehicle fleet consists mainly of EVs
- Smart infrastructure development & sustainable energy harvesting and smart grid innovations
- Together with the World Ecological Forum, GotlandRing has successfully initiated a pre-commercial knowledge procurement for electric road systems through the SmartRoad Gotland project (in cooperation with Trafikverket, the Swedish Transport Administration), the world's first ERS with dynamic charging
